The Federal Ministry of Works has raised concerns over the performance of the Benin-Asaba Expressway Concession Company Limited, BAECC, accusing the concessionaire of violating several provisions of its agreement with the Federal Government.
The Federal Controller of Works in Edo State, Engr. Babatunde Tajudeen, disclosed this during a briefing on the Benin-Asaba concession project.
Tajudeen said the ministry was considering measures to restore the highway and ease the hardship faced by motorists using the road.
The 125-kilometre Benin-Asaba Highway stretches from the Ring Road Roundabout in Benin City to Summit Junction in Asaba, Delta State.
The highway serves as a major transportation link connecting the South-East, South-South and parts of the South-West regions.
