Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has described unity among Christian denominations as vital to peace, tolerance and development in the state.
Governor Fubara stated this at the 10th Spiritual Advisory Council Meeting and Annual Unity Service of Christ Church, Port Harcourt.
Represented by his Deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma-Odu, the Governor reaffirmed the state government’s partnership with the Church and urged Christians to continue praying for the state, its leaders and communities.
Fubara commended the churches for sustaining the annual unity service, noting that their gathering demonstrated that despite denominational differences, Christians remain “one in Christ” and share a common responsibility to promote the welfare of the people.
In his sermon, the Primate and Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, His Eminence Ekpenyong Akpanika, identified divine backing and security as among the greatest advantages in life.
Drawing from Genesis 26:1–13, Akpanika cited Isaac, who prospered despite famine because he obeyed God’s instruction to remain in the land.
He urged Christians not to be overwhelmed by Nigeria’s economic and political challenges, stressing that God’s blessings are not determined by prevailing circumstances.
