US Open: Weather Could Be Djokovic’s Biggest Threat, Says Macci

Renowned American tennis coach Rick Macci has identified weather and physical condition as Novak Djokovic’s biggest challenges at the 2026 US Open.

Macci believes the 39-year-old Serbian has a strong chance of winning a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title, particularly following Jannik Sinner’s withdrawal from the tournament and questions surrounding Carlos Alcaraz’s return from injury.

According to Macci, Djokovic’s toughest opponent in New York may not be any of his major rivals but the hot and humid conditions expected during the tournament.

He warned that temperatures in the high 80s, combined with humidity, could make the physical demands of best-of-five-set matches particularly difficult for Djokovic.

Macci said Djokovic’s ability to manage his energy, recover between matches and avoid lengthy encounters could be crucial to his chances of going deep into the tournament.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion has already demonstrated his physical resilience this season, including a five-hour victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime at Wimbledon.

However, Macci believes Djokovic will need to manage the demanding conditions carefully if he is to secure another Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows.
