Upata Monarch Calls for Stronger Security Around Oil Facilities

The Paramount Ruler of Upata Kingdom in Ahoada East Local Government Area, King Felix Otuwarikpo, has called for stronger security around oil facilities to curb illegal activities contributing to oil spills.

Speaking at an event in Port Harcourt, the monarch said host communities should not be blamed for pipeline failures caused by ageing and obsolete infrastructure.

He also urged the government, regulators and industry operators to strengthen the legal framework governing the oil and gas sector, saying stricter enforcement of existing laws would promote responsible operations and reduce environmental degradation.
