Twenty suspected pro-Biafran agitators, who were arrested in Port Harcourt during a protest on the streets of the Rivers State capital in October, have pleaded not guilty to a one-count charge of treason. After taking the pleas of the accused persons, Justice UCHE AGOMMUO adjourned the matter to 14th of January for hearing of pending applications filed on behalf of the accused persons. Justice AGOMMUO also directed the Police Prosecution to prepare their witnesses for the next adjourned date when trial is expected to begin. Some defence lawyers who were in court today and spoke with our correspondent VICTOR EZEAMA on the outcome of proceedings, expressed satisfaction with the disposition of the trial judge to speed up the matter. Also take note that another set of seven suspected pro-Biafran protesters are also facing related charges in connection with the second pro-Biafran protest in Port Harcourt.
