Nigerian-born winger Emmanuel Chigozie Owen has completed a permanent transfer from German Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen to Dutch Eredivisie club FC Utrecht.
The 19-year-old signed a four-year contract with Utrecht after attracting interest from several clubs, opting for the Dutch side because of its long-term development plans.
Speaking after completing the move, Owen said he felt welcomed from his first visit to the club and believes FC Utrecht offers the ideal environment to continue his development.
The winger described himself as a creative player who enjoys taking on defenders, creating chances, and contributing with goals and assists. He added that his immediate priority is to settle quickly in the Netherlands and gain as much playing time as possible, whether with Jong FC Utrecht or the senior team.
FC Utrecht will hope Owen’s arrival strengthens their attacking options ahead of the new Eredivisie season.
