Traders operating along Igbo-Etche Road in Rivers State are appealing for urgent government intervention over what they describe as an unbearable stench emanating from a nearby dumpsite.
According to the traders, the offensive odor—largely from decomposing vegetables including onions, tomatoes, and cabbage—has made business activities in the area extremely difficult. They report that the persistent smell has led to frequent hospital visits, with many experiencing headaches and nausea.
The traders are calling on the Rivers State Government and the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) to clear the dumpsite at least twice a week to safeguard their health and livelihoods. They stressed that immediate action is needed to prevent further health risks and ensure a more conducive trading environment.
