Landlords Petition Rivers Assembly Over Alleged Land Grabbing in Rumuosi

Landlords at Victory Estate in Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, have petitioned the Rivers State House of Assembly over alleged land grabbing, forceful invasion, and destruction of properties by a retired military officer, Colonel Ogwumerum-Eke.

The House Committee on Public Petitions convened a hearing following a formal petition submitted by the affected property owners.

Speaking on behalf of the landlords, the lead petitioner, Ipalibo Bobmanuel, alleged that the respondent continued to destroy properties despite the matter being before a competent court. He also accused some security operatives of aiding the alleged forceful takeover of the estate and appealed to the Assembly to intervene to prevent further destruction.

Chairman of the House Committee on Public Petitions, Enemi George, expressed disappointment over the absence of Colonel Ogwumerum-Eke at the hearing despite receiving an official invitation. He adjourned the matter to allow the respondent another opportunity to appear for a fair hearing.

The hearing was attended by the Rumuosi community leadership led by the Nyewali of Rumuosi, Eze Titus Akani, representatives of the Rivers State Surveyor-General, the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government, Gift Worlu, and representatives of Victory Estate.
