Thirty-One Years On: Families Mark the Brutal Murder of Four Ogoni Sons in Giokoo

Today marks thirty-one years since four prominent Ogoni sons were tragically murdered in Giokoo community, Gokana Local Government Area. Despite the passage of more than three decades, their loved ones and family members continue to endure anguish, as they still await the return of their remains for a proper burial.

In a statement reflecting the ongoing pain, traditional ruler Confidence Lebura Bani, Te-Ere-Bue Yagwerea (Nortem), the Head of Gbene Yaagooroh Royal Dynasty in Bori, called on the leadership of the Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers to intervene in the matter. He urged them to ensure that justice is served and that the families are allowed to lay their loved ones to rest in peace.

The unresolved nature of the murders remains a painful chapter for the Ogoni community, with many calling for closure and justice after more than three decades of unresolved questions surrounding the tragic incident.
