The trial of the suspected mastermind of the 2010 Independence Day bombing in Abuja continued today before a Federal High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory.
However, there was a disturbing twist in the proceedings, as the main accused person, CHARLES OKAH, attempted to commit suicide right inside the courtroom.
CHARLES OKAH reportedly attempted to jump through a window in the courtroom, which is situated on the third floor of the building, due to frustration over the delay in his prosecution over the past five years.
The alleged mastermind had requested and was granted an opportunity to address the court by Justice GABRIEL KOLAWOLE, and went on to express his displeasure over the slow pace of the case.
He lamented that his family was being denied of the warmth of their father, adding that it was better to die than continue to face the humiliation of the lengthy trial.
CHARLES OKAH is facing charges of terrorism along with three others, namely OBI NWABUEZE and EDMUND EBUWARE who has already been sentenced to life imprisonment following a separate trial.
The fourth accused person TIEMKEMFA OSUVWO died in prison custody. The case has been adjourned to 20th October for continuation of hearing.
