The promised five thousand naira monthly allowance for unemployed Nigerian graduates have sparked another round of exchange between the ruling All Progressives Congress and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party. You will recall that PDP Senators had on Wednesday tried to tie the hands of President MUHAMMADU BUHARI to immediately begin implementation of one of his key campaign promises.
However; the majority APC Senators voted against a section of a motion for a state of emergency on unemployment, which called for the payment of five thousand naira monthly allowance to unemployed graduates.
Reacting to the development; the national leadership of the PDP accused the APC Senators of acting out the script of the ruling party, stressing that the APC had no plan to fulfill its campaign promises.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief OLISA METUH in a statement, said the development confirms the APC as a party of hypocrites.
In a counter reaction, National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji LAI MOHAMMED, assured that the ruling party will not renege on its promise to pay social security to twenty-five million vulnerable Nigerians.
In a statement; LAI MOHAMMED called on citizens to ignore what he described as mischievous attempt by the PDP to confuse and mislead them on the issue.
The APC spokesman said even though the past PDP-led Federal Government plundered the commonwealth in its time, the current APC Administration has devised creative means not only to pay the money but also to fulfill its other campaign
promises to Nigerians. The APC said the non-implementation of the payment policy so far is due to the fact that it was not included in the 2015 budget, which was prepared by the PDP-led Jonathan Administration, and also because of the need to first block all financial leakages.
