Rivers Police Begin Enforcement Against Defaced Number Plates

The Rivers State Police Command says it will commence a statewide enforcement exercise from Monday, June 15, 2026, targeting vehicles with covered, obscured, unauthorised, defaced, or missing registration number plates.

The Command said the exercise is in compliance with a directive from the Inspector-General of Police aimed at strengthening public safety and preventing criminals from concealing their identities while carrying out unlawful activities.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, motorists were advised to ensure that their vehicle number plates are properly affixed, clearly visible and free from any form of obstruction to avoid arrest, vehicle impoundment or prosecution.

The statement further stressed that officers involved in the exercise must conduct themselves professionally, warning that any officer found harassing, intimidating or extorting members of the public would face appropriate disciplinary action.
