The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has trained about ten thousand of its personnel for deployment in counter-insurgency operations.
The Commandant General of the NSCDC, ABDULLAHI GANA MUHAMMADU, made this known during a reception at his office in Abuja for a delegation of officials from the United Nations Counter Terrorism Committee.
MUHAMMADU said as a grassroots oriented organization with the mandate to defend the defenceless, the NSCDC needs support and training in the area of protection of critical infrastructure and other national assets in Nigeria,
The leader of the delegation and Executive Director of the United Nations Counter Terrorism Executive Directorate, WEIXIONG CHEN said the team was in Nigeria for action.
CHEN said their mission is not because Nigeria is a victim of terrorism due to the Boko Haram insurgency, but to assist in training and to proffer solutions.
He stressed that the fight against terrorism will not be complete without the role of the law enforcement agencies.
