The failure by the Rivers State Government to hold the annual Port Harcourt Carnival, popularly called Carni-Riv, is not going down well with some residents of the state capital.Residents of Port Harcourt and other people who looked forward to showcasing of fun events during the end-of-year festivities had become used to Carni-Riv every December during the immediate-past administration in Rivers State.But respondents said the failure to hold the carnival has badly affected recreational activities in the Garden City and also rubbed the state of revenue that usually accrue from the boom in the hospitality sector during the event.Some hotel operators and commercial bus drivers told correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR that the carnival usually attract increased patronage from local and foreign tourists, as well as investors to Port Harcourt.A hotel owner lamented that efforts and resources spent in upgrading his hotel in anticipation of more guest during the annual event turned out a waste.There you heard the voice of a hotel owner who spoke with our correspondent on the cancellation of the annual Carni-Riv event by the Rivers State Government.
