The assurance from the Rivers State Government House of moves to end the industrial crisis that has delayed the resumption of Model Primary Schools has been confirmed by sources within the Ministry of Education. A senior official in the Ministry told our correspondent VICTOR EZEAMA that the state government has concluded plans to pay the backlog of salaries owed security guards and cleaners of the affected schools. The official said he was confident that Governor NYESOM WIKE was aware of the challenges in the education sector, adding that series of meetings have been held with the various contractors working for the model schools. Our source said funds have been approved by the Governor for the payment of contractors handling ICT, security and cleaning components of the model schools. The revelation was made as some parents whose children are attending the Model Primary Schools across Rivers State cried out for government intervention.
The parents who spoke with correspondent LEVI ISU complained that the continued lockdown of the schools could have devastating impact on the education of their children.
