The APC candidate for the re-run election of Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Senator MAGNUS ABE has called on the Federal Government, as well as security agencies to intervene and arrest the wave of violence in Rivers State.Senator ABE made the call against the backdrop of shootings and arson attacks in Bori, the headquarter town of Khana Local Government Area.ABE said the reign of impunity, violence and lawlessness in Rivers State has reached its peak, adding that it might not be possible to hold election under the current atmosphere unless something was done urgently to bring to book the perpetrators of the heinous crime.According to a statement released by his spokesman, PARRY SARO-BENSON, Senator ABE recalled eyewitness accounts claiming that armed men clad in army uniform shooting indiscriminately and throwing explosives into his senatorial liaison office in Bori.Senator ABE described the attack as a cheap attempt to intimidate his supporters and scare them from participating in the forthcoming re-run election.However; the APC Senatorial candidate for Rivers South-East called on all his supporters and all law abiding citizens of the Senatorial District, especially the people of Ogoni, not to take laws in their hands nor do anything that will lead to loss of lives and property but to remain resolute in their commitment.ABE said the struggle to liberate Ogoniland, Rivers State and particularly Rivers South East Senatorial District from the claws of political gangsters, criminals and thugs masquerading as political leaders cannot be won without sacrifice.Senator ABE equally expressed regret that the attack in Bori happened days after Governor NYESOM WIKE attended the 50th birthday celebration of Senator LEE MAEBA at Luuwa in Khana Local Government Area and charged PDP supporters to stop his re-election bid.An APC stakeholder in Ogoni and supporters of Senator ABE, FRIDAY KENNEDY also expressed concern about the violence in Bori.Meanwhile; latest reports from Bori indicate that sporadic shooting lasted throughout the night and continued this morning, as inhabitants fled for safety.A Port Harcourt-based lawyer, FESTUS OGUCHE who was on his way to Bori earlier today to attend a hearing at the State High Court there, confirmed the tensed situation during a live telephone conversation on Today’s Quest.Our correspondent gathered that trouble started in Bori after a detachment of soldiers stormed the nearby Yeghe community in search of former militant leader SOLOMON NDIGBARA who has been in hiding.
