Telecoms Contribute N5.2 Trillion to Nigeria’s GDP in Q2 2026

By Paul Chimodo

Nigeria’s telecommunications sector contributed about 5.2 trillion naira to the country’s real Gross Domestic Product, GDP, in the second quarter of 2026, recording its strongest contribution in two years.

The figure highlights the growing importance of telecommunications to Nigeria’s digital economy and broader economic activity.

The sector’s contribution represents about 15 per cent of Nigeria’s digital economy, underlining the increasing role of telecoms services in supporting businesses, financial transactions, digital communication and other economic activities.

The latest performance also reflects continued growth in the sector, as increased connectivity and demand for digital services strengthen the contribution of telecommunications to the Nigerian economy.

Industry stakeholders say sustained investment in telecoms infrastructure, improved service delivery and a supportive regulatory environment will be critical to maintaining the sector’s growth and its contribution to national economic development.
