Operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, have rescued more than 180 children who were allegedly trafficked across Kaduna, Anambra and three other states in the country.
According to NAPTIP, the criminal groups allegedly posed as members of Civil Society Organisations, CSOs, and deceived parents in various communities before taking their children away under false pretences.
In a statement, the Head of Press and Public Relations Unit of NAPTIP, Vincent Adekoye, said the agency’s latest operation led to the rescue of three children allegedly trafficked from a distressed parent in Kajuru, Kaduna State.
The children were reportedly found in a high-rise private building in a desirable area of Onitsha, Anambra State.
NAPTIP said the rescue formed part of its ongoing efforts to dismantle trafficking networks and protect vulnerable children from exploitation.
The agency urged parents and members of the public to remain vigilant and verify claims made by individuals or organisations offering assistance, particularly to vulnerable families.
