Stop forest and mangrooves destruction, experts urges Nigerians

 

The call was made in commemoration of the International Day of Forests 2020 themed: “Forests and Biodiversity: Too precious to lose”.

 

 

 

Speaking with newsmen at an event at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Port Harcourt, Jerry Chidi of the Niger-Delta Snapahot said the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March the International Day of Forests to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests which is essential in the Niger-Delta.

 

 

 

 

Also speaking; some environmentalists at the event said it is important to consistently undertake programmes that will encourage reforestation.

 

 

 

 

Our correspondent reports that the highlight of the event was the planting of mangroves around communities in Rumuorlumeni.
