Amaju Pinnick has been re-elected president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for a second four-year term. Pinnick, who is also the first Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), won 34 votes to beat former NFF president Aminu Maigari, who received eight votes.

Taiwo Ogunjobi, now former general secretary of the NFF polled two votes, while there were no votes for amateur club owner Chinedu Okoye.

The majority of the previous executive committee was returned on the promise of continuity.

Pinnick’s first tenure was characterised by a consistent power tussle with Chris Giwa, who also claimed leadership of the country’s football four years ago.

Ahead of the Elections, The NFF electoral committee had announced that Maigari is now only on a “provisional clearance” AFTER they had earlier cleared him for the polls in Katsina.

Reports claim Maigari has received overwhelming support from across the country ever since he declared his intention to return to office after a highly successful tenure between 2010 and 2014.

And there is probably a ploy from Pinnick to stop him from contesting.

A top source has also reported that Chris Giwa has got a court order to stop the NFF elections going on right now in Katsina.

Meanwhile,

Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Solomon Dalung has re-iterated his stance that Nigeria signed no treaty with World Football Governing Body.

FIFA and stated that he will defend the constitution of Nigeria, thereby discrediting the NFF Elections billed to take place in Katsina tomorrow.
