Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti‑Uduaghan, has urged Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, to take decisive action following a fresh wave of deadly attacks in Plateau State, saying the country’s security situation can no longer be met with condolences and assurances. The call came after gunmen attacked residents of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area, leaving scores of people dead and many others injured.
In a post addressed directly to the minister, Akpoti‑Uduaghan said the recent violence was “another brutal reminder that Nigerians remain unprotected,” and criticised assurances from the defence ministry that have yet to translate into real improvements on the ground. She said Nigerians are tired of sympathy and want tangible results that would secure lives and restore confidence in the nation’s security system.
“Dear General Christopher Musa… Angwan Rukuba is another brutal reminder that Nigerians remain unprotected. During your screening at the Senate chambers, your words were filled with promises, and I allowed myself a sigh of relief…at last, I thought. Well, prove NOW you are different and secure lives, or step aside. Enough of condolences. Enough of excuses. Nigerians want action, protection, and results,” the senator wrote.
The attacks in Plateau State have renewed national concern over insecurity in parts of the country long plagued by violence linked to clashes between armed groups, farmers and herders, and community vigilantes. Authorities have imposed curfews and deployed additional security forces in some affected areas to curb further bloodshed, while civil society groups and political figures have reiterated calls for stronger government action.
Akpoti‑Uduaghan’s public demand adds to growing pressure on federal authorities to deliver effective security responses following a series of high-profile attacks, fueling debate about the performance of Nigeria’s security leadership and the need for urgent solutions.
