Senate felicitate with Nigerian women on International women’s day celebration.

The Senate resolution was based on a motion sponsored by Senator BINTA MASI of Adamwa-North with the support of Senators OLUREMI TINUBU and STELLA ODUAH.

 

 

Leading debate on the motion, Senator MASI expresses concern about the poor implementation of policies that prohibits violence against women and girls.

 

 

The Adamawa State Senator observed that many states across Nigeria were yet to domesticate the Violence against Persons Prohibition Act, which was signed into law in 2015.

 

She made a case for the enactment of policies to promote women’s access to innovative technologies and protection from violence in work places.

 

In his remarks; the Deputy Senate President, IKE EKWEREMADU who presided over the plenary, stressed the need for government to intensify advocacy to stop violence against women.

 

 

Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly also mandated its Committee on Women Affairs to look into the domestication of the Violence against Persons Prohibition Act in all states of d federation.
