The adjournment motion was move by the Senate Leader; Senator AHMED LAWAN.

Before the adjournment, the senate reacted to the rejection of Presidential assent on four bills passed by the Eighth National Assembly.

The Senate was notified about the development through four letters from the Acting President, Professor YEMI OSINBAJO to the Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI.

The bills include the Dangerous Drugs Amendment Bill, which the Acting President withheld assent due to concerns about the use of words and phrases as well as the intention of the amendment.

Professor OSINBAJO also declined assent to the National Lottery Bill on grounds of pending legal issues on the competence of the National Assembly’s powers to legislate on the subject.

The Agricultural Guaranteed Credit Scheme Fund Amendment Bill and the Currency Conversion Freezing Orders Bill were also not signed by the Acting President. ?

Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that Senator DINO MELAYE of the APC from Kogi State raised an objection against the Executive on the basis of the principle of separation of powers.

But in his ruling, the Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI referred the issue to the Legal Department for interpretations of the law and advice.
