ROTIMI AMAECHI identified economic crime as a global problem that can only be effectively tackled through global partnership.
The Transportation Minister made the observation in a keynote speech on Economic Crimes at a symposium at the Cambridge University in the United Kingdom.
AMAECHI spoke alongside the Attorney-General of England and Wales and the Advocate General of Northern Ireland before an audience at the opening of the 34th Cambridge University International Symposium on Economic Crime.
In his address entitled: “Beyond Blame Game: The Imperative of Tackling Economic Crime Together”, the Nigerian Transportation Minister said economic crime is committed in an organised manner and usually involves several people, sometimes across countries.
He said the public and private sectors, especially the banks, must work together to tackle the problem of economic crimes, just as institutions from both developed and developing countries must share information to expose international networks involved in such act.
ROTIMI AMAECHI also made a case for strong and effective regulatory and enforcement capabilities must be encouraged both domestically and internationally through technical cooperation.
