The family of Doris Njideka Okorlecha has appealed for urgent intervention over her continued detention since June 18 at a correctional facility.
Doris, a mother of two, was remanded for allegedly abducting her own children.
A human rights activist monitoring the case, Ezekiel Zini, alleged that the dispute escalated after the Divisional Police Officer of Oyigbo Police Division handed custody of the children to their father despite their mother being alive and mentally sound.
He claimed the woman later took custody of her sons while they were returning from school, leading to her arrest, and further alleged that the judicial process had been frustrated.
The detained woman’s elder sister, Vivian Chinwe, said the children have remained distressed since their mother’s incarceration.
