The Rivers State Government has launched a newborn screening programme aimed at early detection of genetic and other health disorders among infants.
Speaking at the launch, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Ngozi Odu, said the initiative would help ensure that children with detected conditions receive proper medical care without relying on guesswork.
The Chief Medical Director of Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, Chizindu Alikor, described the programme as a major breakthrough, saying it would improve early disease detection and strengthen documentation of newborn health outcomes.
The Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme, Vetty Agala, assured residents that the screening programme would be affordable and accessible to all categories of people in the state.
