The Rivers State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has expressed readiness to collaborate with the Youth Rescue International Development Organization in rehabilitating young people involved in drug abuse.
The State NDLEA Commander, represented by ACN Ugochukwu Olisaemeka-Iyi, made the commitment during the graduation and reintegration ceremony for about 18 young men from Set 28 in Jos State and Set 29 in Port Harcourt.
Olisaemeka-Iyi commended the organization for its efforts towards achieving a drug-free society, noting that drug abuse is a major driver of other forms of crime.
She warned the graduates against returning to their former lifestyles, urging them to remain steadfast in rejecting drug abuse and other social vices.
The NDLEA representative also appealed to parents to avoid using harsh words on their children, noting that such treatment could contribute to some young people engaging in drug abuse.
She encouraged parents to monitor, communicate with and show love to their children.
Also speaking, the Rivers State Coordinator of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, POCACOV, Raymond Divine-Akachim, commended the graduates for choosing to stay away from drugs.
He, however, urged them to remain vigilant and resist the temptations they may face after being reintegrated into society.
