Rivers Lawmakers Face Constituency Backlash Over Poor Representation

Rivers State lawmakers are facing growing criticism from their constituents over alleged poor performance and lack of accountability. In Abonnema, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, residents of State Constituencies One and Two—represented by Major Jack and Lolo Isaiah Opuende—have expressed strong dissatisfaction, accusing the lawmakers of failing to meet their responsibilities.

Community and youth leaders who spoke with our reporter, Ufuoma Kokogho, raised concerns over the deteriorating state of the Abonnema General Hospital in Constituency One, alleging that vital medical equipment was removed, leaving the facility unable to deliver basic healthcare services.

Similarly, residents of Constituency Two in Asari Toru Local Government Area have accused their representative and spokesperson of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly, Enemi Alabo George, of neglecting his duties. The aggrieved constituents allege that the lawmaker only appears during election periods and has politicised the Buguma General Hospital, claiming equipment showcased during its reopening was later removed. They say plans are underway to initiate a recall process.

Meanwhile, the lawmaker representing Constituency One in Asari Toru LGA, Tekenari Granville, is receiving commendation from his constituents for what they describe as effective representation.
