The Rivers State Head of Service, Dr. Inyingi Brown, has reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to promoting gender balance and inclusiveness in the public service.
Dr. Brown stated this while speaking at the 2025 Biennial Conference of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Rivers State chapter, held in Port Harcourt. She said the government has put policies in place to create an enabling environment that allows women to thrive and contribute meaningfully to governance and development.
According to her, empowering women in the public service remains a key priority of the administration, as gender balance is essential for effective service delivery and sustainable growth.
Delivering the keynote address at the conference, Professor Julie Umokoro called on governments at all levels to intensify efforts toward the economic empowerment of women. She emphasized the need to provide women with access to low-interest credit facilities to enhance their productivity, entrepreneurship, and overall economic participation.
Earlier, the President of the National Council of Women Societies in Rivers State, Jetiba Soberekon, acknowledged the progress recorded so far in advancing women’s rights and inclusion. However, she noted that women in the state still face significant socio-economic challenges that require deliberate policy attention.
The theme of the 2025 Biennial Conference is “Empowering the Woman, Transforming the State: Navigating Economic Realities and Driving Inclusive Growth.”
