The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has urged judicial officers in the state to remain courageous, incorruptible and resist undue pressure in the delivery of justice.
Governor Fubara made the call in his goodwill message at the Special Court Session marking the opening of the 2026/2027 Legal Year in Rivers State.
The governor, whose message was delivered by his deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma-Ordu, commended the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Simone Chibuzor-Amadi, for standing firm in the face of political pressure.
He said the state government had approved a 50 percent increase in overhead funding and released funds for the judiciary’s capital budget to support the equipping and development of the justice system, as provided in the current budget.
Earlier in her address, the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simone Chibuzor-Amadi, urged political parties and their supporters to refrain from activities capable of bringing the judiciary into disrepute.
Justice Chibuzor-Amadi assured that the judiciary would sustain its adoption of technological procedures and infrastructural development, adding that the institution remained open to partnerships that would strengthen the justice system.
The Chief Judge, however, expressed concern over the continued operation of the Rivers State Judicial Service Commission without commissioners.
She also called for increased recruitment of judicial personnel, citing manpower shortages as a major challenge affecting the judiciary.
Today FM Correspondent, Uchendu Ejiowhor, reports that the Rivers State Judiciary recorded a revenue of one billion, twenty-nine million, twelve thousand, six hundred and forty-two naira during the 2025/2026 legal year.
