The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of lying to the public about his interactions with lawmakers, escalating tensions within the state’s political arena.
Amaewhule dismissed the governor’s recent claim that he had been unable to meet with members of the Assembly, insisting that such meetings had taken place. He described the governor’s remarks as false and an attempt to mislead the public.
The Speaker further alleged that Fubara has been sidelining lawmakers from governance processes and implementing key decisions without legislative input. He warned that the governor’s actions risk plunging the state into a fresh political crisis.
Governor Fubara, however, has denied any wrongdoing, saying he has consistently shown willingness to engage with the Assembly and has been waiting for party leaders to facilitate further dialogue.
The renewed exchange marks another flashpoint in the political tension that has gripped Rivers State in recent months.
