The alleged disqualification of aspirants believed to be loyal to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has continued to generate reactions across the state.
A cross-section of residents described the outcome of the All Progressives Congress screening exercise as politically motivated, linking the controversy to the ongoing rift between Governor Fubara and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.
Some residents, however, blamed the situation on what they described as the governor’s indecisive political strategy. A political science lecturer at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Dr. Goodluck Okeh, also alleged that the governor has lost grip on state political structures amid the developments.
Okeh further claimed that the disqualifications were based on loyalty considerations rather than eligibility, intensifying the debate around the APC screening process.
