Motorists and commuters have been stranded along Ada George Road in Port Harcourt after protesters blocked the AGIP Junction, demanding justice over the alleged killing of a University of Port Harcourt undergraduate, Anthony Obodo.
The protest follows the death of the 100-level student on Thursday, August 27, in an incident involving police officers.
The protesters alleged that Obodo was flagged down by the officers and chased after he reportedly failed to stop. They further claimed that shots were fired at his vehicle, hitting its tyres, before he was allegedly shot twice and died.
Speaking with a TODAY FM correspondent at the scene, a concerned resident, Charles Chukwu, said the protesters were demanding justice for Obodo, his family and Nigerian youths.
Chukwu described the demonstration as peaceful and said it would continue until the protesters were satisfied that justice was being served.
He also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police had visited the scene and assured the protesters that the officers allegedly involved in the incident had been arrested and would face the law.
However, Chukwu called for the officers to be publicly paraded and urged the authorities to put concrete measures in place to prevent a recurrence of the incident.
