In his opening remarks; the Chairman of the panel, Justice BIOBELE GEORGEWILL said their mission covers allegations of human rights violations, violations of professional code of conduct and derailment from the rules engagement by personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The Chairman commended the Federal Government for taking the bold step of reviewing the activities of the Armed Forces with a view to ensuring a better relationship between the military and civilian citizens in Nigeria.
Justice GEORGEWILL, who is of the Court of Appeal, said victims of verifiable and confirmed cases of abuse would be compensated and the officers involved would be prosecuted.
He said recommendations would be made in line with world best practices to re-assure the international community of the integrity of the Nigerian state.
Our correspondent VICTOR EZEAMA reports that the assignment of the nine-man panel in the South-South will end on Thursday this week.
This comes after the setting up of the Panel by Vice President YEMI OSINBAJO while serving as Acting President during the recent long absence from office on health grounds by President MUHAMMADU BUHARI.
