CONSTANCE MEJU told newsmen in the Rivers State capital that government agencies, particularly the Standard Organization of Nigeria, failed in their responsibilities to check the quality of goods that are brought into the country.

MEJU also said Nigerians have been made to pay more for fake products, just as she called on consumers to ignore imported rice and purchase locally produced brands.

You will recall that the Federal Operations Unit of the Nigeria Customs Service announced the interception of one hundred and two bags of suspected plastic rice branded as “Beat Tomato Rice” with no date of manufacture.

This was made known by the Customs Area Controller, MOHAMMED HARUNA, who disclosed that the commodity was stored for distribution as Yuletide gifts for the public.
