Over 500 Nigerians Cleared for Evacuation from South Africa

More than 500 Nigerians in South Africa have been screened and cleared for evacuation following recent xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a statement that Nigeria’s mission in Pretoria has extended the screening of affected Nigerians who have expressed interest in returning home until Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

According to the ministry, the Federal Government has approved five evacuation flights to be operated by Air Peace.

The first flight, expected to carry about 270 passengers, is scheduled to depart Johannesburg, pending final operational and security clearances.

The ministry added that details of departure and arrival in Lagos will be announced once confirmations are received from Nigeria’s High Commission in South Africa.
