Political Parties Warn Delay in INEC Funding Could Jeopardise 2027 Elections

Major political parties have warned that delays in the release of funds to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 general elections could undermine the commission’s preparations and affect the credibility of the polls.

The parties expressed concern that timely funding is critical for INEC to commence early planning, including voter registration, procurement of election materials, logistics, and other essential pre-election activities.

They cautioned that any delay in financing the electoral body could disrupt the election timetable, weaken public confidence in the process, and create avoidable challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The parties therefore urged the Federal Government to ensure the prompt release of funds to enable INEC to carry out its constitutional responsibilities effectively and guarantee free, fair and credible elections.
