The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Ikwerre Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Dike Providence-Chima, has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Divisional Police Officer in Elele and the traditional institution to urgently investigate the activities of OSPAC in Elele, Ikwerre Local Government Area.
Providence-Chima expressed concern over the reported arrest and detention of Onyemaechi Ndah, Emmanuel Iheanacho and Eze Igwe, as well as alleged threats to the lives and safety of some members and supporters of the NDC in Elele. He stressed that law-abiding citizens have the right to freedom of association, lawful gatherings and participation in political and social activities without intimidation or harassment.
The NDC candidate also raised concern over allegations of cultism and possession of firearms levelled against some citizens, insisting that such serious allegations must be properly investigated and supported by credible evidence. He urged security agencies and the traditional institution to call OSPAC Elele to order and ensure its activities remain within the law and its original community-focused objectives.
Providence-Chima further appealed to human rights organisations and the general public to speak against actions capable of creating fear and instability in Elele. He warned that no innocent person should be victimised or labelled without credible evidence, reaffirming the NDC’s commitment to peace, democracy, the rule of law and peaceful political participation.
