The Command Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement also dismissed allegations of compromise by the officers in Obite Police Station, noting that the suspect was released after a reliable surety stood in on his behalf, while investigation was ongoing.
SP Iringe-Koko further disclosed that the suspect who was supposed to report back to the station, fled after he was released and that a serious manhunt was launched by the DPO and his operatives to get the suspect back in custody.
The PPRO, revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka directed that the case file be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
In the meantime, the uncle to the 11-year-old girl, Benjamin Enyeoha who earlier accused the Police of compromise, has hailed the Commissioner of Police, detectives at Obite Police Division and Human Rights groups for their efforts in re-arresting the suspect and asked the police to quickly arraign the suspect in court for the sake of justice.
