The breakthrough was recorded by men of the Intelligence Response Team of the Inspector General of Police.
The Force Public Relations Officer, DONALD AWUNAH the notorious kidnappers were intercepted along Azikiwe Road in Port Harcourt.
The Force spokesman said the kidnappers were on their way for an operation before they were locked in a gun battle with the police patrol team.
He said three of the kidnappers were fatally wounded while a member of the gang identified as JAMES PETER was taken alive.
A statement released by the Force PPRO indicates that thirty-year-old JAMES PETER is from Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The statement further disclosed that the arrested kidnapper has since been cooperating with the police in their investigation.
It also noted that weapons recovered from the kidnappers include one General Purpose Machine Gun, one AK-47 rifle, chains of GPMG ammunition and two fully loaded AK-47 magazines.
The police are now making efforts to arrest other fleeing members of the gang and recover their cache of arms.
Following the development, the Inspector General of Police, IBRAHIM IDRIS, has enjoined Nigerians never to hesitate to provide the police with valuable information on the activities of criminals.
