The National Youth Council of Ogoni People, NYCOP, has expressed concern over what it describes as comments capable of setting individuals against leaders in Ogoniland.
Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the Publicity Secretary of NYCOP, Jigo Nkani, said recent comments attributed to Oscar Imeabe could reopen old wounds arising from the tragic Giokoo incident of 1994.
Nkani also cautioned that nothing should happen to former MOSOP President, Ledum Mitee, warning that Oscar Imeabe would be held responsible should anything happen to him. He called on Ogoni stakeholders to exercise restraint and avoid statements capable of escalating tensions in the area.
The youth body reaffirmed its support for the ongoing dialogue between the Federal Government and Ogoni stakeholders on the proposed resumption of oil exploration in Ogoniland, urging all parties to prioritise peace, unity and constructive engagement.
