State Chairman of NUT, LUCKY NKPONGENE, said most members of the union have completed the biometric verification exercise but are yet to be paid.

NKPONGENE particularly mentioned teachers in Port Harcourt City Local Government, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni, and Obio-Akpor Local Government.

NKPONGENE, who made the revelation in an interview with our correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA, wondered why government officials have been informing that the public that no teacher is being owed.

The NUT Chairman warned that the union might be forced to embark on some action if government failed to resolve the matter with teachers.

Meanwhile; the delay in the payment of workers by the Rivers State Government is also being experienced in other sectors.

The leadership of the State Joint Public Negotiating Council has scheduled a meeting within the week to deliberate on the issue.

In a related development; some workers at Ikwerre Local Government council have blamed the Chairman of Local Government Service Commission, AZUBUIKE NMERUKINI and the Caretaker Chairman of the Council, SAMEUL WANOSIKE for withholding their salaries.

The Ikwerre council workers complained that the alleged action of both top officials had subjected their families to hardship.

Reacting to the allegation, AZUBUIKE NMERUKINI said he has not been officially informed of any complaint of nonpayment of salary of local government workers.
AZUBIKE NMERUKINI is the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission in Rivers state.
