Nigeria’s Broadband Penetration Crosses 50% as Subscriptions Hit 109.7 Million

By Paul Chimodo

Nigeria’s broadband penetration has crossed the 50 per cent mark, reaching 50.58% in November 2025, as total broadband subscriptions rose to 109.7 million, according to new industry data.

The latest figures show a steady growth in Internet adoption across the country, up from 44.43% recorded in December 2024, reflecting increased connectivity despite infrastructure and service quality challenges.

Data from the Nigerian Communications Commission indicates that Internet usage also surged significantly, with Nigerians consuming over 1.24 million terabytes of data in November 2025.

However, the country is still short of its 70% broadband penetration target set under the National Broadband Plan, with analysts pointing to persistent issues such as rural access gaps, high cost of data, and inconsistent service quality as key barriers.

While the milestone is being viewed as a positive step for Nigeria’s digital economy, experts say the real test lies in improving affordability, speed, and nationwide coverage beyond urban centres.
