Nigerians Reflect on Economic Gains 65 Years After Independence

Sixty-five years after Nigeria gained independence, some Nigerians have been reflecting on the country’s progress across different sectors.

On the economy, Professor of Monetary Economics at the Rivers State University, Sancho Chukwu, said Nigeria is yet to attain true economic independence. According to him, this can only be achieved when the nation becomes a producing economy rather than relying heavily on imports.

In contrast, financial analyst Kenneth Okara highlighted some positive indicators. He pointed out that Nigeria’s debt-free status with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is a promising sign on the path to economic independence.
