Nigerian Army court-marshal 20 personnel, 4 four officers ,16 others offences in anti-insurgency operations in the North-East.

The General Court Marshal was inaugurated yesterday by the Acting General Officer Commanding Seven Division of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General VICTOR EZUGWU.

In his remarks during the ceremony at the Theatre Command Media Centre in Maiduguri, Brigadier General EZUGWU said the General Court Marshal was set up based on a directive from the Army Headquarters.

He reminded the presiding officers that one of the aims of a Court Martial is to achieve timely and quick dispensation of justice within the framework provided in relevant statute books.

Brigadier General EZUGWU said it important that both the Prosecution and the Accused Persons or their counsels are mindful of the fact and strive to shun all forms of antics that could lead to unnecessary delays in the trial processes.

In his response to the charge, the President of the Court-Martial, Brigadier General OLUSEGUN ADENIYI, promised that the trials would be conclude within the shortest possible time.

Brigadier General ADENIYI equally assured that the time already spent in detention by the accused soldiers and officers would be adequately accounted for in determining their sentencing after the final judgment.
