Nigeria Edge Tanzania 2–1 in AFCON 2025 Opener

Nigeria opened their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Tanzania in their Group C match.

The Super Eagles took the lead in the 36th minute when defender Semi Ajayi powered home a header from an Alex Iwobi cross. Tanzania responded early in the second half, with Charles M’Mombwa scoring in the 50th minute to level the match. However, Nigeria regained control just two minutes later when Ademola Lookman struck to restore the lead.

Despite Tanzania’s efforts, Nigeria held on for the win, starting their AFCON journey on a positive note as they look ahead to their next group matches.
