Awoniyi Scores, Assists as Coventry Beat Plymouth 4-2 to Reach Carabao Cup Third Round

Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi opened his goalscoring account for Coventry City as he scored and provided an assist in their 4-2 victory over Plymouth Argyle in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Awoniyi put Coventry ahead after just three minutes before turning provider two minutes later, setting up Jack Rudoni to double the visitors’ advantage.

Plymouth fought back through Oliver Irow and Xavier Amaechi to level the scores, but Coventry regained control in the second half. Ephron Mason-Clark restored their lead in the 67th minute before Victor Torp converted a penalty to seal the 4-2 victory.

The result sends Coventry City into the third round of the Carabao Cup, while the performance gives Awoniyi a strong start to his goalscoring campaign with the club. The Nigerian striker is now looking to build on the impressive display following his move from Nottingham Forest.
