The Niger Delta Forum – which is a group of eminent stakeholders in the Niger Delta – has observed that the Executive Arm of the Federal Government is not moving fast enough in addressing problems in the region.

PANDEF is particularly concerned about the slow pace of work on the Ogoni cleanup programme, two years after the Buhari Administration and one year after the launch of the cleanup.

The group is also particular about the move by oil multinationals to move their headquarters from the region, without any deliberate effort by the government in compelling them to stay in the region.

Comparatively; a PANDEF spokesman, TONY URANTA said the National Assembly has been more responsive to the Niger Delta cause deploying legislative means to tackle the problems.

URANTA, who was speaking on a television programme from Lagos, said it is not enough for the Acting President to ask oil multinationals not to leave the Niger Delta without accompanying such pronouncement with a binding legislation.

URANTA insisted that the Government must show commitment by holding talks with Niger Delta stakeholders through PANDEF, as a sure means to resolve the agitation in the region.

TONY URANTA observed that the current atmosphere of peace that appears to be prevailing in the Niger Delta is shaky.
