Armed group affliated with MEND granted amnesty by State Government.

Members of an armed group in Usukun community in Degema, which claims affiliation to the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, have been granted amnesty by the Rivers State Government.

Our correspondent SANDRA KENNETH reports that the group led by one DICKSON EMAGBEMETU surrendered one AK-47 rifle, five Dane guns, three locally-made pistols, one magazine and about a dozen ammunition, among other items.

The Amnesty Committee first stopped at Bakana community yesterday where repentant cultists from the Greenland group were granted amnesty by the state government.

The Chairman of the Amnesty Committee, KENNETH CHINDA received the repentant cultists led by one GIFT EFEREBOR during a disarming ceremony in the community earlier yesterday.

Our correspondent also reports that the Amnesty Committee recovered one AK-47 rifle, three locally-made pistols, two magazines and two hundred and seven live ammunition during the mop-up operation at Bakana.
