The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe, says he withdrew his petition from the Election Tribunal challenging the emergence of Sim Fubara as governor of the state so as to avoid a direct confrontation with President-elect Bola Tinubu.

Abe, who spoke during a television interview, said his decision was informed by the changing dynamics on the political landscape and the practicality of following through with their petition at the tribunal.

Abe also said that he decided to withdraw from the tribunal because he did not want to give his supporters the false hope that they could win.
